Our School
Our school is situated to the east of the village of Wylam in a very pleasant setting overlooking the Tyne Valley. There has been a school at Wylam for well over a hundred years, but the present building was opened in May 1974. It is a purpose built First School comprising five classrooms, a hall, kitchen, administrative area and a 26 place nursery. The school has an excellent playing field, which is used extensively throughout the year.
Mission Statement
- We value the unique qualities of all individuals, promoting honesty and tolerance.
- We provide a safe, caring, and stimulating environment to maximize the achievement of all children and foster a love of learning.
- Through careful planning of differentiated activities we build on skills, ensure equal opportunities and aim for high standards.
- We actively promote the development of children’s thinking skills by encouraging questioning and reasoning across the curriculum. We believe these skills help to prepare children for life in the 21st Century.
Creativity in School
Wylam First School is proud of the work we have done with Creative Partnerships Northumberland over the past 5 years. Creative Partnerships was an Arts Council programme which was the catalyst for ‘blue sky’ thinking in education. The aim was to foster long term partnerships which stimulated bold new ways of working. We continue together to bring teachers, families and creative people equipped with the resources to enthral and inspire young people. Creative Projects make our school a fun and exciting place to be. We believe that creative activity help us to value differences and celebrate wider cultures. Learning is seen as a way of widening horizons and visualising ambitious futures.
We believe that parents are our partners in school, and we greatly value your help and support in making your child’s stay with us as happy and beneficial as possible. We hope that we will all enjoy learning together.
We look forward to meeting you.
