We hope you all had a lovely half term break and that the children are all set for the last leg of this year.
Looking back over last half term …
25 April – Our parent/carer Reading Workshop was well attended. Thank you to all those who came along – we hope you found it useful and informative. The slides used on the evening are still available to view on the school website.
3-5 May – Year 4 had their 3 day residential at Newby Bridge. The sun shone for the whole of their stay and the children/staff had a great time filled with exciting outdoor activities and challenges. The Year 4s will have some fantastic memories to take with them as they move onto pastures new.
17 May – The Police came into Nursery and Reception to tell the children about what they do (to tie in with the topic of ‘people who help us’). There was much excitement when the Police horses arrived and the children were able to go inside the Police van and sound the siren!
21 May – Jump for Joy. A message from Mr Daly: What a fantastic day we all had at St Oswin’s. The choir were brilliant and sang beautifully. Helen and I are really proud of them all and we are now looking forward to learning some new songs for summer. PS I must apologise to all parents re: too many ‘bumdeeighdees’.
25 May – Year 1 had a trip to Beamish Museum in the glorious sunshine. The children experienced a steam train ride, a tram ride, a visit down the mine and rounded the day off with a trip to the Old Town Sweetie Shop!
25 May – The Fire Service came in to visit Nursery and Reception. The Fire Service arrived at Early Years in their fire engine where the water hoses were greatly appreciated in the soaring temperatures! The children had the chance to explore the fire engine as well as try on some uniform.
Our new Caretaker, Mr Harrison, started at the beginning of last half term. He brings with him a lot of school caretaking experience.
As you are aware, Mrs Gibbon, our new Headteacher, starts in September and we look forward to welcoming her to the school.
From September 2017 we are offering 30 hours per week nursery places in line with the Government’s new ‘30 Hours Free Childcare’ scheme. This extra funding is to support working parents with managing the cost of childcare, to support parents back into work and/or allow parents to increase their hours, should they wish. If your child is 3 before 31 August 2017 and you would like to find out if you could be entitled to up to 30 hours of free childcare from September, please visit the site below.
