Reception

Please feel free to come into school and discuss with me ANY problems or share information.  I am free after school for a chat or if you need a longer time then we can book a convenient meeting.  My planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) time is on Thursday mornings but I am here in the afternoon if you need to speak to me.

Working alongside me in Reception is Mrs Liddle and Miss Scott our teaching assistants who many of you will already know.

Themes for the year ahead:

In Reception we base our work around themes each half term. These may change as we like to follow the children’s interests to make learning more fun.

Dinosaurs and Our New Topics

Our Dinosaur topic has been fantastic and the children really enjoyed finding out about prehistoric times. We begin this term where we left off looking at Dinosaur eggs and living things that come out of eggs. We explore life cycles, butterflies and frogs and complete the term with exciting Easter activities.

Phonic Books/Numeracy

Please use your phonic books regularly at home as we will be continuing our phonic/literacy lessons everyday – including rhyming CVC words, word building, simple sentences and punctuation (full stops and capital letters).

We will be introducing the language of addition and working through simple addition calculations.  We also introduce money this term and evaluate 2D and 3D shapes

Other Information:

Parent/carer helpers
We always welcome parents/carers/family members into the Reception classroom to have a chat about your child, have a look at displays/children’s work etc. If you ever find yourself having any spare time you are welcome to come in and help. We are always glad to have an extra pair of hands!

P.E. and outdoor play
P.E. will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  P.E. bags must be in school on these days.  Please remember to ensure that all P.E. items are clearly labelled with your child’s name (please don’t forget the plimsolls too!). Outdoor play is an entitlement to children working within the Foundation Stage. We like to go outside at every opportunity even when it is raining! We have a set of Wellington boots in class but please make sure that on cold/wet days that your child brings a named warm coat with a hood so that they can continue to enjoy learning in our lovely school grounds.

Playtimes at school
Children in Reception have 2 playtimes a day. They are allowed to bring in a small POCKET SIZED toy to play with in the playground and this is to be kept in their coat pocket or in their book bag or tray and is only to be used at playtimes.

I look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks and I will particularly look forward to our discussions at the parent consultations in this spring.
