WELCOME TO RECEPTION
Reception Year at Wylam First School 2011-12
SPRING – GOLD TERM
Space
Our space topic has been fantastic and the children are loving this adventure. We will continue our space theme in the new term and then come back down to earth looking at our world and where we live. Please keep this in mind for our show and tell afternoons.
Diary Dates
Wednesday 22nd February – The Centre for Life Planetarium arrives in school and takes us into space and beyond!
Tuesday 28th February Wednesday 29th February Thursday 1st March Parents Meetings – details to follow.
Wednesday 28th March – There will be a coffee morning in the school hall after drop off at 9am followed by a brief singing concert by the Foundation Stage at 9.15am. Looking forward to seeing you then!
Phonic Books/Numeracy
Please use your phonic books regularly at home as we will be continuing our phonic/literacy lessons everyday – including rhyming CVC words, word building, simple sentences and punctuation (full stops and capital letters).
We will be introducing the language of addition and working through simple addition calculations. We also introduce money this term and evaluate 2D and 3D shapes.
I look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks and I will particularly look forward to our discussions at the parent consultations in February.

Other Information:
We always welcome parents/carers/family members into the Reception classroom to have a chat about your child, have a look at displays/children’s work etc. If you ever find yourself having any spare time you are welcome to come in and help. We are always glad to have an extra pair of hands!
P.E. and outdoor play
P.E. will take place on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. P.E. bags must be in school on these days. Please remember to ensure that all P.E. items are clearly labelled with your child’s name (please don’t forget the plimsolls too!). Outdoor play is an entitlement to children working within the Foundation Stage. We like to go outside at every opportunity even when it is raining! We have a set of Wellington boots in class but please make sure that on cold/wet days that your child brings a named warm coat with a hood so that they can continue to enjoy learning in our lovely school grounds.
Playtimes at school
Children in Reception have 2 playtimes a day and a lunch time play. They are allowed to bring in a small POCKET SIZED toy to play with in the playground and this is to be kept in their coat pocket or in their book bag or tray and is only to be used at playtimes.
